- A Text Parser Adventure where you -
- CAN'T STOP MOVING -

What if you took 80s adventure games like Space Quest, crossed them with auto-runners like Canabalt and threw in a dash of Another World?

You'll need all your wits, cunning, and typing skills to make it in TERMINAL CITYas you guide street-kid V-Loc on his quest to evade the evil Syndicate corpos and rescue his friends.

In a world of instant-deaths, no checkpoints and dead ends, how far will YOU get?

- HOW TO PLAY -

  • Use your keyboard!
Type in commands, but be quick, you're always on the move!
  • Try: 'LOOK AROUND' or 'LOOK AT (object)' for hints.
  • Press TAB to peek at your inventory.
  • Other useful commands include:
'GET', 'SEARCH, 'CLIMB', 'PULL', 'JUMP', 'TYPE', 'TURN ON'...
You'll have to find more yourself!
  • Too hard?
Type 'GO SLOWER' to slow down. Or SLOW, SLOWER, SLOWEST.
  • Going for a record time?
Try 'GO FASTER'! NORMAL, FAST, FASTER, FASTEST work too.
  • Post your best Distance or Time in the comments!
  • GOOD LUCK!

Cool idea, this could be a pretty neat introduction to the adventure game genre. Took me about half an hour, and I ran into a couple bugs: LOOKing while falling through the fan breaks the animation sequence, preventing the screen from scrolling and leaving you blind. Also, I managed to free the bird twice one time. Maybe leave that first one in? Someone who had the screens memorized could use it for a neat timesave.

good but its too complex for my 10wpm typing speed

good job , brava

Like the idea and style! I think it`s worth adding checkpoints with autosave in order not to go through everything from the beginning when stuck smowhere.

Have you registered this to ifdb.org? Please consider to do so if you haven’t! This is such a fresh new take on a parser game and I wish more people would see it.

I'm not a member but I'll have to poke around there sometime, looks like A great resource. Don't know if this really fits into IF but someone added it I wouldn't complain!

(+1)

A great resource, but being a long and historied institution means sometimes the community misses newer games from outsiders that might have been significant.

I finally got around to making a page https://ifdb.org/viewgame?id=picinmzu2qmpje7m

I hope this brings you some eyes!

Awesome, thanks!

hey im struggling near the keypad bridge, maybe im dumb but i cant find any code to use, also when i type "use keypad" nothing happens. for reference, i have the exo-pole, keycard, my light JUST died, and ive freed the bird, but not the green thing next to it. can anyone help?

Might want to look around more while you're in the hideout

Whoa nice one!

(+1)

A really cool idea, nicely done.

(+1)

Gaining on you... slowly

Gotta go fastest all the time and no sitting around loitering :>

I hear no game sound. Is it intentional or its my problem?

(+1)

Yeah didn't get time to add any :)

Alright I got a new record, here's my time to beat!

(+1)

Really love this! Does anyone have any idea what to do at the end of the train? I'm guessing there's an item earlier that I'm missing but I can't figure out what.

You're not the first to get stuck here (Honestly it's further than I expected anyone to get on their own!) There's a hint in the death message... Don't want to say more since there's still no spoiler tags in itch comments :( DM me on twitter if you want more ;)

Also realised that when you "LOOK" at the top of certain stairs it wasn't giving the correct message, so that's fixed now, hopefully helps with others in future at that point!

I just finished it! 2:08 was my time! Really fun! (ps if you don't type in the final command of the game then your character walks to the end and no death triggers, I don't know if anyone has had that happen yet so idk if that's useful feedback)

Oops! There is a death that's supposed to trigger there! Great time though! I've gotta play some more myself and try and get sub 1 min.

I downloaded the Mac version within an hour or two of release, and in one playthrough I experienced being stuck at the end of the train with no death message appearing — I just rode into the sunset with no conclusion. (Not sure if this is something you've fixed in a more recent iteration.)

i tried dive off train but that didn't work.

i tried get off train too

also, you can just put the answer in an image and put a spoiler tag on that

i DMed you on twitter...

Was annoyed how specific (word choice) a few commands had to be, but otherwise had a blast :)

(+1)

Oh, which ones? If you can email me the UnhandledParser.txt file I can add everything you missed to the parser ;) dave at powerhoof.com

Sent you an email :)

This is loads of fun! It’s a great concept and very challenging. The combination of two styles of game that you wouldn’t usually put together works so well. It reminds of getting my dad to help out in particularly tense moments of old Sierra games, where quick typing was essential for survival.

(+1)

I enjoyed the heck out of this!  Great job!

(+2)

Really enjoyed this! My final completion time was 2:18.133.

The repetition wasn't frustrating — it actually became very meditative once I mastered the parts that were difficult at first. Would love to see an extended game with this same combination of Sierra-style graphics and text input.

(+1)

Oh that's awesome. I didn't even expect people to be able to finish it without working on it together since there'd be so much figuring out to do. Great time though, beats mine I'm pretty sure, I'll have to try harder!

(+1)

Very interesting concept. For me the replaying from the start got to be too much after I got stuck at the end of the train... love the style though, really takes me back.

Yeah it's been an interesting idea to play around with, and you got further than I expected people to get on their own!

(+2)

This is a truly revolutionary new genre! Had to get one hint from Thrive, but managed to finish in 2:14 eventually. Took about an hour in total! Super fun, super frustrating. Would play a longer game but I think it would need checkpoints if it was any longer. Awesome job!

(+1)

Thanks dude, and awesome time! I need to try and beat it!

(+1)

Tried it on fast, but my fingers couldn’t keep up. Fastest has to be impossible, right? Haha.

(+1)

I got to the mono on fastest and instantly died! But I might be able to switch it back on the way down, hmmmm.

(+1)

Yeah after the PV you can’t type again until right before the first mono sign. Not enough time!
